As you have probably noticed, the town is installing sidewalks on Main St. Meadow Hill residents have worked for years to encourage the town to provide sidewalks all the way to town!!!
The sidewalks in front of Meadow Hill will have ramps at the ends of each section. As part of that process the town will be reconfiguring to make the South entrance island larger, reducing the size of the entrance side width for the first 10 to 15 feet. That change will make the installation of sidewalk ramps more effective, it will then also conform to the original Meadow Hill design. The engineers assure us that the resulting width will meet standards and is large enough for a tractor-trailer to enter. Darien believes it will make plowing easier and less likely that trucks plowing Main St will dump snow on the island.
There may be sometimes when one side or the other of Hollister Way South entrance is closed. The engineers assure us that there will always be access to Meadow Hill.
Like every other landowner, it will be Meadow Hill’s responsibility to clear sidewalks with frontage on our property. This means that our maintenance department will be responsible for clearing the new sidewalks from Hollister Way South, to a bit around the corner of Rt. 17. Hopefully, it won’t be too many years until we benefit from those sidewalks linking from Stockade Road, to South Glastonbury.
