Late summer has brought the usual invasion of crabgrass to Meadow Hill. Despite numerous and expensive treatments with pre- emergent chemicals year after year, we seem no further ahead in our effort to subdue it. Some areas are affected worse than others, but overall, it’s a continuing problem. The reasons are numerous: our soil has mostly sand and not enough clay, irrigation is limited to the Hollister House surroundings, not enough shade in some areas, too much in others, drought conditions, granular as opposed to liquid applications, on and on.
That’s why the Landscape Committee has asked Mike Hodges to put together a three year plan for landscaping that is designed to drastically improve the look of Meadow Hill, horticulturally. With fairly new siding, newly paved roads, more repaving of sidewalks this fall, landscaping is the remaining issue of significance that needs to be addressed. We live in a beautiful complex, sitting on a bend in the Connecticut River and surrounded by wild life. Seems only fitting that our common area lawns should not mar that picture.
Within the next few weeks, Mike will present his solutions to the committee and the board, incorporated into a multiyear plan designed to get us from point A to point B in the most economical way. We will know, up front, what the cost will be and the board will make its recommendation. Residents will then have the opportunity to know what the various options are and which approach the board supports. We hope as many of you as possible will attend Mike’s meeting. The date and time will be forthcoming. Please consider attending.
